Getting ready for twins - by Ellen Becker
So as a disclaimer, I am 33 weeks pregnant with boy/ girl twins. I have a lot of ideas but a lot of them have not been put into practice yet, but a lot of what I will tell you comes from other moms of twins and at least my experience with this pregnancy. Every pregnancy is different, but I will tell you about mine.
-First of all, I highly suggest buying or borrowing from the library What to Expect when you are Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads. It is written by a doctor who runs a multiples clinic and another woman who has her PhD in multiples research. I just recently got it from the library and really wish that I had had it my whole pregnancy. It is really validating and gives a lot of tips as far as rest, eating, and weight gain. Bottom line is: twins is a high risk pregnancy and is different that a caring one baby. It was good for me to hear through this book that I need to rest and eat a lot and if I don't, I am much higher risk for pre-term labor. Continue reading |
Sleep training twins - by Deidra Rader
Our guys just turned five months too! We worked to keep ours on a three hour schedule (2.5 for the first two weeks to get back up to birth weight) and followed Babywise pretty closely. They were sleeping 10-11 hours right after their three month birthday with 6 feedings during the day. Our doc said not to change anything (like adding solids) if they are sleeping through night. Like why mess with a good thing? The key for us was helping them work through the 45 minute intruder so their naps were at least 1.5 hours. They are still ready to go down after every feeding at about 60-70minutes after we started feeding them. They're big boys so I figure if they're up after a 1.5 hour nap and eating 6-8 oz each time, then I'm fine with the 2.5 hour sked and night time sleep! Continue reading
